Saint had sent me this link, we are thinking Lovecraft as well, which will be REALLY awesome. I was asking someone not too long ago, why haven't they done a good Lovecraft film. One of my hypothesis about Lost, is the island is actually the location Cthulhu is buried near, and the 'magical' properties is just coming from his aura.

Quote:
My name is Van?the writings of Ethan Haas here. Thought it was just some old story but then it began to sound like he actually seen the future. Everything up to now has happened exactly how he said it would. And then there's his predictions of the future. So many people die. You were able to find this message. You are one of us. So you must know what needs to be done. But to be sure, I have to test you. You need to find other to help us try and stop it. You must send them here to prove they are one of us. It's already started, but we are not strong enough yet. You'll only have till August 1st to recruit? Now trust Haas for the answer.

The signs have already started to show themselves. They have been for years. But when money is more important than saving lives to the ones who have the power to stop it. Why don't they want to hear the truth? Our ways have brought this upon ourselves. And this is just the beginning. This world is going to change one way or another. It's inevitable, and you know this, but there is help out there for us. Now make the single point to find it. Tell all those you know before it's too late.

We are blinded by our own selfish interests. Our wars are taking the lives that we need for the bigger battles ahead. Intolerance, oppression, poverty, and poor education are killing those that could help defend the world. The media is failing us in exchange for ratings. Of course no one can see what we see. Destruction will be unlike anything the world has ever seen. The more of us that survive, the better our chances. And now the group of us carefully positioned in unison to unlock the way to our new fate. You must get others here or this will all be for nothing. We'll see.

The stars began to rain down. The few survivors are () safety in the cities. But they won't know what you and I know. Only then will it really be the beginning of the end. When they finally show themselves and shock what's left of the old world. Where we stand in the new heirarchy will be up to us in what we do today. The will be the final and most challenging of all things that have come. We won't have time for any more games after this. Only the truth. Now the more that we are in the same place at the same time, the more we will all see. We must organize before it's too late.

Haas's visions end here. What happens next is completely up to you. You have unlocked the keycode that will bring you your reward for your dedication and cause that will first start to be of value on August 1st. And you will only have 30 days to used it. Take note of this code. It will help you get your preparations underway for the new world which you are all a part of whether you like it or not. But what role you play, and how you live or die is completely up to you. It begins August 1st. We will meet back here on that date.

For some reason I get a Lovecraft vibe with this movie/ARG.

Awesome news. For the Andersons at least. I found a HDTV for the price I'm willing to pay. It's a 37" Westinghouse. I originally planned on buying it online, cause it's at least $300+ cheaper than Best Buy. I decided to go to the Westinghouse homepage, and I found out that our local Sam's also carries Westinghouse. I know that it's delivery only, but I KNOW Sams (and it IS a few dollars cheaper than online). Also we all know that everything Wal-Mart is cheaper (cheaper quality too though), but Westinghouse is actually a respectable brand. So once my tax money arrives, we will be getting one.Smile

I haven't really looked into this too much, but I would get a case that could support two optical drives, even if I din't use them at first. That way you could have bot HD-DVD and Blu-Ray if the dual formats go on for a while and they get affordable. Later on you could insert a recorder or something if you want once a single format is decided upon.

I've been looking at building one on and off for awhile now. I've been using my laptop, but I've got no live TV capture, so I'm still considering building something from scratch.

Here's the hardware I've been thinking about:
* Antec FUSION HTPC case
* ASUS A8V-VM SE mobo and an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Venice (combo price)
* 2x512MB RAM (Dual Channel kit)
* EVGA GeForce 7100GS video card
* Hauppage PVR250 TV/FM tuner card
The total cost so far is just under $550. I'm going to see if I can't get this lower though -- I'd love to get something under $400.

I'm planning on running MythTV, and probably just using something like Ubintu (rather than Gentoo), so I can spend more time watching, and less time configuring it.Smile

I have been building a htpc at home, after getting some great open source windows software to use as my interface and my hd tuner card and remote working I started looking at drives. I then ran across this article that explains that the 199.99 HD-DVD drive for the 360 will indeed work in a windows or mac computer, complete with windows install drivers.

so if you wanted to get into the hd dvd game, here?s an affordable opening...

I haven't played in the first 2, but I decided to join the 3rd to see how it was. I don't know what the format is, but I'm guessing the webmasters will run different type games and you compete with the others for points. I don't even know if you win anything. These guys are good people. They need 15 players, and it looks like they are about 5 or 6 players short. Their first game is to recruit. So if you join, come to my thread and post. I'll get a point for you joining. I'm trying to rally support for my recruits to get points too.Wink So if you are interested, go here to join. Then go here to post.

The problem with Sony is that the different divisions within Sony are at odds. On one side, you have the Sony Vaio (and offshoots), billed as an entertainment computer for ripping, burning and storing movies and music. Then you have Sony Entertainment going after anyone who rips their movies (whether it's ripping DVDs, or using their movie franchise licenses). That's just something that Sony proper needs to reconcile.

And speaking of people making games for the Wii -- I was reading that there's a line of pr0n games coming out this year that make use of a strap-on controller. Sierra will also be doing a Leisure Suit Larry.Smile

Speaking of home brew, thats another reason I'm so pro wii, there talking about a games channel that will allow for original content and perhaps home brew. Wii comes in cheapest again as far as a development system witch I think is at 1000 compared to a 360 at 1700 and a ps3 at 2500. And its is surprisingly easy to get the wiimote to work with your game, but like just about all 3rd part developers have said, its a little scary to develop for since its a console around fun and, "What if my game isn't as fun as the 1st part devel!"

Pooh you should do some digging, I will too, someone somewhere has to have the videos still available, I mean the game looked sweet as hell, gave me wood looking at it. gigity gigity

[quote]Posted: Sunday, January 28, 2007 at 2:06 pm EST
I sound mean at times too, but I don't mean it. Smile

I forgot to mention it in my first post, but I haven't seen any footage of the game. I've just seen the one picture. I also saw the Timeo game on the Zootfly site. I don't think it resembles Ghostbusters though. While I don't know the reasons behind Sony's denial, we can't assume it was because it would have been for a different system. We could also assume that Sony not offering the IP on their own system could mean it's already being developed by someone.

I'm not against homebrews/mods/etc at all. Another solution that may not get beef is if they release Timeo, and hey, what's this, someone's made a Timeo mod with new levels, gameplay, and characters, and it's very Ghostbustersy. If you are talking homebrew for the PSP, then that does irk me somewhat. People want to put what they want on it, so Sony should let them. A solution for them is to make stable software that allows homebrew items. I also know that Sony has a bunch of stuff up their sleeve involving the PSP/PS3, so any new firmware could unintentionally brick a system.

Sony is a completely different debate. I agree they have made some poor choices. There is a lot more behind blu-ray and the PS3 than XBox360 or Wii. I think if they would have held out for another year, they would have had a cleaner release. They were so hellbent on besting Microsoft, that it hurt them. Sony should take some pages from Creative and focus on it's buyers rather than it's competitors.

[quote]Posted: Sunday, January 28, 2007 at 1:16 pm EST
well pooh you have most of the facts correct so kudos that you read about this before posting. They weren't told no to begin with they just started working on a game and it kinda became ghostbusters, then they wanted to show that there is indeed interest in it, so they posted the vid to try to get Sony interested. Theres no reason that Sony couldn't say hey yeah we'll publish that, but it has to be on our system and not msofts. Which the only reason it was built with a 360 engine is because thats what they have and the ps3 is already renowned as being the hardest and most unsupported system to code for.

Now as far as a game coming from ZootFly, sure they don't have a lot of street cred to their name but this (and timeo) could be what puts them on the map, everyone has to have a start somewhere and your already closing your mind to them and the possibilities they are giving us. So really your argument hurts the cause of original and/or little gaming company's trying to give us new content. So does that mean you are against home brew games, mods, non-mainstream OS's, case mods, and anything a little different or new? cause if not then your kinda contradicting yourself.

And why not a Chrysler 300M as ecto-2, since ecto-1 was shown in some of the game footage as being the original car. I believe the idea is you are playing as a new team not as any of the main characters from the movie, there just in there to give guidance and advice. The only footage I saw of them was in cut scenes talking. Coming back to it being Ecto-1 why the hell not, its different, its imaginative, there showing us they have an imagination and not just a cool cookie cutter, and it could help pay for the production of the game keeping the cost down (had it been developed) because maybe Chrysler would throw in to the idea.

As far as liking Sony/blu-Ray, thats cool, I haven't made up my mind, I just think blue-ray is a bit over priced but hd-dvd is not much better, as far as quality goes its your own opinion, and mine is I don't really see a difference, except the first blu-ray players were crap. I just wish they would come to some sort of agreement and be done with the format war. And I feel that Sony has made some poor choices, it was once the greatest electronics company around, and now there giving us sub-par results (for them since they set there standard so high with past products) while seemingly trying to punish consumers with the decisions made.

Oh and your right Sony may have someone make a ghost busters game, but ZootFlys looked fun and its there idea, if someone else takes it, it will probably go in an entirely different direction and even Valve has made bad games.

Oh and something about Timeo, I may have misunderstood this, but timeo is a war game, the idea was inspired by (after some interest was shown before CES in the gb engine they made) the engine, not by ghostbusters. And since it had been picked up by a publisher (Timeo) they have pushed forword with that, in doing so they have made improvments to the engine and creating the gb game from there would have been cake... of corse timeo still has no distributer so it may never see the light of day tooSmile

edit: Something sounded rude that wasn't meant to so I re worded it

Disclaimer
Yes, I?m pro Sony/Blu-Ray, but don't let that discredit my opinion.

Zootfly never asked permission for the rights while 'developing' the game. They had an engine already, and someone probably thought, "You know what would be cool? A Ghostbusters game", so they 'developed' it. They have a game they are making called Timeo, which they say as being 'inspired' by the Ghostbusters. So it would seem they were already in the knowledge that Sony wouldn't allow them to make it, yet they show us anyway. They had no right putting the pics/videos on the net in the first place. If it were Microsofts IP, they'd do the same thing. I've never played any of their games, but seems to me, the first, Hollow, not finding a publisher gives me good enough reason for me not to want them to make a Ghostbusters game. It does look pretty, but gameplay factors heavily, and if you don't have that, people won't buy it. Besides, a Chrysler 300M as Ecto-1? No thanks.

At least now Sony, and any other big name companies know that the masses would like to see a first-person Ghostbusters shooter, so maybe we still will, just not by Zootfly.

If it were Valve that Sony was refusing, then yes. I'd give you the benefit of the doubt. Zootfly had 2 strikes against them. They were told no, yet they still exploited the idea. And 2, we haven't seen a first person game by them yet. Give us a Timeo playable demo, then see what the peoples opinion is.

I am looking for a "Work at Home" kind of set up. Like data entry or something like that. I can type pretty fast so anything like that would be fine too, like medical transcription or something. Anything you guys can find (that isn't a scam) would be great, I have a tendency to just believe anything out there (and all I've found sounds scammy) so you guys could prolley find something that's actually good better than me.
Thanks for the help!! Wink

My brother-in-laws logic is that he can make way more on Ebay, hence my original post. He doesn't have an account, and Ebay is more strict on their PS3 auctions.

I'm not sure which to pity more: the fact that someone was willing to pay $1200 for a spot in line (and ostensibly not counting the cost of the console itself) or the fact that someone refused it. Whatever

WooHoo!!!! You go Chains. Post us some video of you playing with that. okay?

My Brother-in-law was offered $1200 for his spot. He declined.

Can someone do me a quick favor?

Go to google images and search for "spoon fed". I need a picture of a mother feeding a baby (preferably with the spoon in the babies mouth). Make sure the pic/site is Safe for work, as I am at work. HURRY!!!!!

Anybody want to start up a cake decorating business ala Ace of Cakes on Food Network? I'm jealous of those guys. It looks so much fun. Especially since nowadays you can cheat by using fondant instead of real icing.
